Enslaved Indian Media

The media of this country has time and again failed the citizenry. It is unfortunate that Indian media which boasts of courage has always sided with the mighty and powerful. During UPA media did everything it could to destroy BJP and Modi in particular. Relentless rant and personal campaigns against Mr Modi were common scenarios in newsrooms and reportage of the media then. BJP fought these motivated campaigns tooth and nail. It, however, took an ugly turn when Gen VK Singh called them 'Presstitues'. Regime changed in 2014 and presstitutes started entertaining their news masters. Those who once were the victims of biased coverage chose not to change but rather deploy it to their own benefit.

The coverage of news channels nowadays is more focussed on India-Pakistan conflicts, Kashmir unrest, China standoff as if there are no other issues in India. There are primetime debates for even a lighter ambush. Aggression and noise fill the media space nowadays as if trying to prove that the military is the only subject India cares about and if not then they force the discourse in that direction. Entire media fraternity creates an uproar when soldiers are martyred but not one shameless channels covers when 100's of farmers commit suicides. Their sympathy arouses and heart melts only for deaths of soldiers not for thousands of farmers. Is the life of 100 farmers not even equal to 1 soldier? This comparison may be uncalled for in normal times but this is not the normal time we are living in. These news puppets care least about the soldier but more about forwarding the agendas of there masters. These media channels cried foul when an ex CRPF jawan committed suicide. The recent CAG report on apathy in railways and its food, lack of war reserves with Indian forces and holes in crop assurance to name a few have hardly been reported in mainstream media.Popular hashtags during this time have been:#UPASamjhautaSilence, #RepublicforJNUTank, #OpenBoforBoxes, #FarooqProChina, #BashitleaveIndia,   #JusticeforSunanda, #UPAsamjhautaSilence, #ArvindGate etc. A new propagandist channel Republic has sprouted up. Right from its inception its has not done even ONE literally not even one show critical of Mr Modi. Perhaps Arnab romanticizes about Mr Modi. Times Now too, has not done a single show critical of Mr Modi. They may do show against BJP but not against very Mr Modi. On the other hand, on June 2, Nidhi Razdan of NDTV asks Sambit Patra of BJP to leave or apologise and after 4 days on June 6, CBI raids NDTV founders. EPW puts up an article against Adani-Modi nexus, editor Paranjoy Guha Thakurta is forced to resign after trustees ask him to remove the said articles and he refuses. Reliance took over the entire network 18 just after Modi had won 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

A systematic effort is underway to enslave media where most have readily accepted to be so. In return media get huge favors and access to inside documents critical ONLY of opposition. Perhaps its the unique situation where opposition(media) has happily chosen to mow down opposition(political parties). And in the due course BJP rules.

The Media is always ready to play to the gallery but remember it plays ONLY to the gallery. This same media will shift allegiance to other entity when the regime changes. What is the point of having such a media?
